POLICY ENSURING COMMUNICATIONS ACCESS
Minnesota Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Specialists is committed to ensuring equal access to all of our patients regardless of national origin, language barriers, and deaf and hard of hearing patients. We will ensure effective communication is achieved with all of our patients to the greatest extent possible.
Clinic staff will arrange for foreign language interpreter services when effective provider-patient communication in English is not possible. We will arrange for aids and services for the deaf or hard of hearing including sign language and oral interpreters, note takers, etc.
Minnesota Plastic Surgery Specialists will determine, with input from our patient, how best to achieve effective communication depending on factors such as the length of the visit and/or nature of the examination or follow-up. We maintain discretion over how best to achieve this goal such as hiring of interpreters, utilizing telephonic language lines, etc.
We will arrange and pay for interpreter services including travel time in I5-minute intervals modeled after Minnesota Medicaid payment policies. We will not pay for interpreters who are family members of the patient.
